I augusti gjorde han även seniordebut på EM i sprint i Belgien.
Antoine bor nu och pluggar till ingenjör i Lyon där det franska laget har ett av två nationella träningscenter och tränar inför sitt första seniorår 2026.
Tell us about yourself! How did you start with orienteering?
I started orienteering in 2018 by discovering it at school. It’s a bit later than most of the athletes I know, but I was quickly motivated to progress and ready to train hard, so it compensated. My home terrain, the Fontainebleau Forest, is really fun and technical. It has pretty clean vegetation, with short but steep climbs and most importantly a lot of huge rocks. This gives the opportunity to runners to have great speed, whilst also forcing them to be really sharp technically in this rocky maze.
I also rapidly had the opportunity to get some selections with the French team which was a huge boost in my development. What are you doing today?
Currently I am 20 years old, and I’m studying engineering at Lyon, whilst also being part of one of the main French Orienteering training center. So basically I study and train all day, and if I’ve got time I’ll try to map around some cities for some sprint sessions or I’ll go on a longjogg. What is your strengths as orienteer?
Careful and thorough planning is my technical strength. This is why I enjoy the most the Sprint and Long Distance. On the other hand I struggle mainly on my compasswork. Therefore I have some difficulties maintaining good navigation on really high speed during the Middle Distance. So this is really what I seek to improve by discovering new terrains in Sweden.
Next year will be your first as a senior. What is your goals for next year and the future?
My expectations aren’t really set for next year in terms of performance as I will just become a senior. Next year will be about a lot of discovery. The main goal is to get some World Cup selections so I can see what I need to work on for the future years. But also discovering new ways of competing and training, on terrains I’ve never been to, with a Scandinavian club.
My roommate gave me positive feedback from your club as you helped him the opportunity to train on your maps to prepare before their testraces this spring. This seems to be a really good experience”
Vi välkomnar Antoine till Järla och ser fram emot när han kommer till Nacka för att träna och tävla!
